Portugal
Der Bereich ist nach dem gleichnamigen Fluss benannt, der in Spanien als Duero entspringt. Über zwei Jahrhunderte lang galt die Grenze ausschließlich für den Portwein, erst im Jahre 1979 (als Tischweine) und dann 1982 (als DOC) wurden dies auch auf die „normalen“ Rot- und Weißweine ausgedehnt. Die offizielle Bezeichnung des DOC-Bereiches ist Porto e Douro. Die Rebsorten sind praktisch diesselben wie für den Portwein, die wichtigsten roten sind Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa und Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), die wichtigsten weißen sind Gouveio (Verdelho), Malvasia Fina und Viosinho.
